Ford Mondeo travels 2,129 km on one tank of diesel

A new Mondeo powered by Ford’s advanced 120 hp 1.5-liter TDCi diesel engine has travelled the length of Norway - more than 2,100 km - on a single tank of fuel.

Eco-drivers Knut Wilthil and Henrik Borchgrevink achieved the remarkable feat after accepting a challenge to see just how far a tank of Shell Diesel Extra fuel could last.

The Norwegians averaged a highly impressive 2.8-liter/100km (100 mpg) driving all the way from Norway’s most northerly point, North Cape, to Oslo in the south.

Running on Continental EcoContact 5 tires, their completely standard Mondeo clocked up 2,129 km (1,323 miles) before it finally ran out of juice.

Wilthil and Borchgrevink told Ford: "We have driven six of these eco-challenges by now and have always been impressed with Ford. Not only do the cars have great fuel economy, but also the enthusiasm and service from Ford always been great! We had high expectations of the Mondeo and it fulfilled them all."

In 2013, Wilthil and Borchgrevink drove a Ford Focus powered by the award-winning 1.0-liter EcoBoost engine more than 1,600 km on a single tank of fuel in Norway - a feat they claimed as a benchmark at the time.
