According to a recent report, the i5 - the third model from the BMW i brand - will be launched in 2018.

The AutoBild magazine says the i5 will be powered by the same plug-in hybrid powerplant as the 5-Series GT hybrid concept, including a gasoline engine with 218 hp and two electric motors with 150 hp and 272 hp. The total system output of 640 hp is likely to force the passengers into the seats in the sprint to 100 km/h.

In terms of design, the i5 will share some of its design cues with the 2016 7-Series and will be roughly the same size as the current 6-Series GranCoupe. It will be based on the long-version of the 5-Series which is built for the Chinese market.
