MINI has taken the wraps off the Cooper SD and Cooper One First, which will go on sale in July. Both models offer an impressively favourable balance between driving fun and fuel consumption.
The Cooper SD is the "most powerful diesel variant" as it has a 2.0-liter TwinPower Turbo 4-cylinder diesel engine which produces 170 hp and 360 Nm of torque. This allows the hatchback to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 7.3 seconds (7.2 seconds with the optional six-speed Steptronic transmission) and return 4.0-4.1 L/100km (57.3-58.8 mpg US or 68.9-70.6 mpg UK) with CO2 emissions of 104-110 g/km.
Meanwhile, the One First features a 1.2-liter TwinPower Turbo 3-cylinder petrol engine that develops 75 hp and 150 Nm of torque. The car reaches the 100 km/h mark from standing in 12.8 seconds. Its average fuel consumption is 5.0-5.2 L/100km, while the relevant CO2 emissions rating is between 117 and 122 g/km (figures based on EU test cycle, dependent on selected tyre format).
