Mercedes-Benz has started production of the 2015 C-Class at the company's Tuscaloosa plant in the United States.

With this, the third location in the global C-Class production network has begun manufacturing. The C-Class is the first model to be produced on four continents, following the ramp-ups in Bremen (Germany), East London (South Africa) and now Tuscaloosa, the production location in Beijing (China) will begin manufacturing shortly.

Set to go on sale in the United States and Canada this fall, the 2015 C-Class closely echoes the European version but only be offered with two engines including a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder with 241 hp and 310 Nm of torque, along with a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 with 329 hp and 479 Nm of torque.

In a statement, Jason Hoff, Head of the Mercedes-Benz Tuscaloosa plant, said "Many of our Team Members have spent weeks and months in Germany getting to know the C-Class and the technologies associated with this product. Thanks to our highly qualified and motivated team, we are optimally prepared to write the next chapters of our success story 'made by Mercedes-Benz in Alabama'."
