In a recent interview, Audi CEO has revealed the A1 and A3 will be fitted with a three-cylinder engine.
Speaking to Auto Express at the Beijing Motor Show, Rupert Stadler said: "In the A1 and the A3, the three-cylinder will be a standard engine in the future, for sure. It gives a good feeling and plenty of torque."
When asked if the A1 would be the first Audi to get this engine, Stadler replied: "Yes, for sure." He declined to mention performance specifications, but the Volkswagen Polo has a 1.4-liter three-cylinder diesel engine which produces up to 104 hp.
In related news, Stadler also confirmed the company’s commitment to plug-in hybrid technology, claiming a A6 plug-in will be launched in China later this year, with other markets due to follow suit.
