Following last weekend's leaked images, McLaren has officially revealed the 650S ahead of its public debut next month at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show.
Essentially a modified version of the 12C, the 650S promises to redefine the high performance supercar segment and has been developed to provide the ultimate in driver engagement on the road and on the race track.
The 650S badge designation refers to the power output (650 hp) of the unique 3.8-liter V8 twin-turbo engine, while 'S' stands for 'Sport', underlining the focus and developments made to handling, transmission, drivability and engagement. Performance figures will be disclosed prior to the Geneva Motor Show but will improve on the already rapid 12C so it will be a more appropiate adversary for the Ferrari 458 Speciale.
Other cosmetic changes include door blades behind the front wheels, tweaked Active aerodynamics, bigger side vents for engine cooling and new five-spoke lightweight forged alloy wheels wrapped in Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires. In total, the 650S is as aerodynamic as the 12C with the same drag coefficient yet with a 24 percent increase in downforce at 150 mph.
The McLaren 650S will be available as a fixed-head Coupe or as a Spider with a retractable folding hard top.
