It's all change at Formula One

With the new Formula 1 season just a few weeks away, speculation is mounting over what will happen on the track given the radical new changes the sport has seen ushered in pretty quickly.

There are various requirements for the season ahead based around greener technologies which have the constructors working round the clock to iron out the glitches. These are, perhaps, the biggest changes the sport has ever seen and they’re bound to cause problems on the track.

Far smaller 1.6-liter V6 turbo engines with hybrid technology have been introduced along with lowered noses and centralised exhausts exiting above the gearbox - to name but a few of the major changes.

This, in turn, has led to speculation that there could be a changing of the old guard. The Vettel - Red Bull combination has swept all before it in the last four seasons. The German is just three drivers’ championships behind all-time record holder and countryman, Michael Schumacher. And at just 26 years of age - many in the sport believe he’s capable of equalling or possibly even beating Schumacher’s record.

This is reflected in Vettel’s odds for the forthcoming season - which kicks off in Melbourne on March 16th. With Betfair, the German is less than 2/1 to regain his title this year. These odds, though, look very short indeed given the afore-mentioned sweeping technological changes demanded by the F1 governing body in time for the new season.

What’s more - the final grand prix of the season in Abu Dhabi will definitely be a double-pointer and head of F1 Bernie Ecclestone now wants to go further still in making all there of the last grands prix of the season double-pointers. This would upset the apple cart even more, potentially; all of which adds to the excitement, particularly if you enjoy a longshot wager on the sport.
