According to senior sources within Audi, the Q8 will receive an e-tron version to compete with the upcoming Tesla Model X.
The SUV is expected to use battery and electric powertrain technology from the upcoming R8 e-tron which should be enough for an estimated range of 370 miles. It will be launched in 2017 or later with electric motors driving the front and rear wheels.
In addition to the electric version, the Q8, which rides on the next-generation Q7 platform, will be available with a variety of gasoline and diesel engines, as well as a plug-in hybrid system. There will also be a high-performance SQ8 variant.
The German carmaker will offer the Q8 in both five- and seven-seat configurations and will be more expensive than the next-generation Q7, which is due later this year.
