Mercedes-Benz has officially revealed the high-performance AMG version of the GLA, ahead of its public debut at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show on January 13.

According to the German carmaker, the design of the GLA 45 AMG exudes style on account of its powerful and distinctive character. The SUV combines the hallmark sensual clarity of Mercedes-Benz as an expression of modern luxury with muscular elements exclusive to AMG.

Meanwhile, the interior delights with the high-quality appeal, combined with sporty flair and exclusive equipment features. The cabin boasts sport seats in Artico man-made leather/Dinamica microfiber with red contrasting stitching and red safety belts. There's also a three-spoke Nappa leather multifunction sports steering wheel and an AMG instrument cluster with a two-tube design and central colour display.

Under the hood, the GLA 45 AMG is powered by a Euro 6-compliant 2.0-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine which develops 360 hp and 450 Nm of torque, driving all four wheels via a seven-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT transmission.

It can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 4.8 seconds and hit an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h. In terms of efficiency, the model returns 7.5-liter / 100 km (37.6 mpg UK or 31.3 mpg US) with corresponding CO2 emissions of 175 g/km.

The 2014 GLA 45 AMG will be launched in Europe beginning in July and the North American in the fall.
