After several pictures emerged onto the web, the 2014 Porsche 911 Targa has made its world premiere at the Detroit Auto Show yesterday.
Just like the legendary original 911 Targa of 1965, the new 911 Targa features a roof bar, a movable front roof section and a wraparound rear window. But unlike the classic model, the roof segment can be opened and closed in 19 seconds at the push of a button, with the top automatically stowed away behind the rear seats.
According to the German carmaker, the Targa will be offered in two engine variants, both exclusively with an all-wheel drive arrangement. The 911 Targa 4 is powered by a 3.4-liter 6-cylinder engine with 350 hp. Equipped with the optional PDK and Sport Chrono package, the car can accelerate from 0-96 km/h in 4.6 seconds and hit a top speed of 280 km/h (282 km/h with the manual transmission).
Meanwhile, the more potent 911 Targa 4S delivers 400 hp from its 3.8-liter 6-cylinder engine and accelerates from 0-96 km/h in 4.2 seconds when equipped with the optional PDK and Sport Chrono package. It is capable of reaching a top speed of 295 km/h with the manual and 293 km/h with the PDK.
Scheduled to go on sale in the United States this summer, the 2014 Porsche 911 Targa 4 has a starting price of $101,600 while the 4S version costs $116,200, with both prices excluding a destination charge of $995.
