Japanese carmaker Lexus has officially unveiled the RC F Coupe at the 2014 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
Designed to compete with the BMW M4 and Audi RS5, the RC F Coupe has been equipped with aggressive bumpers, an "F-mesh" grille, new side skirts and swollen fenders. There's also a bulging hood, a carbon fiber roof, 19-inch forged aluminum wheels and an active rear wing that deploys at approximately 80 km/h and retracts at speeds less than 40 km/h.
The interior comes with body hugging sport seats, a new instrument cluster with a single central meter and customizable display. Other highlights include revised trim, alloy pedals and a new "elliptical cross-section thick-grip steering wheel".
Motivation is provided by a 5.0-liter 32-valve V8 engine which produces more than 450 hp and 518 Nm of torque. It is mated to an eight-speed Sports Direct Shift transmission driving the rear wheels via a Torque Vectoring Differential. This allows the car to accelerate from 0-96 km/h in less than 4.6 seconds and hit an electronically limited top speed of 270 km/h.
For the first time, a Lexus performance engine runs on the Atkinson cycle at cruising speeds, for enhanced fuel economy, and then switches to the Otto cycle at higher rpm to develop impressive performance levels.
The 2015 Lexus RC F is scheduled to go on sale in the United States this fall.
