Caterham has introduced an updated version of its Superlight R300 race car, boosting performance and further reducing running costs.
Set to debut at AutoSport International, the car features a revised suspension with new upper wishbones, 13-inch wheels and new Avon ZZR and ZZS tires which have improved grip levels and a longer life.
Under the hood, the R300 is powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine which produces 175 hp. It is mated to a Sadev six-speed sequential transmission that replaces the existing manual unit.
Simon Lambert, Chief Motorsport & Technical Officer of Caterham Cars, said: "We are looking forward to bringing back sequential gearboxes to Caterham racing - the feedback we have received from the drivers has led us to develop the new Superlight R300 race cars. It’s a win-win scenario because not only will lap times be faster, but it should prove to be extremely robust, too, meaning that along with the durable ZZR tire, entrants can expect improved reliability and reduced costs."
Currently available to order, the 2014 Caterham Superlight R300 has a starting price of £32,495. The season begins at Snetterton circuit on April 19 and includes rounds at Donington, Zolder in Belgium, Brands Hatch, Rockingham, Croft and Silverstone.
