2012-2013 Ford Edge recalled for fire risk

2013 Ford Edge

Ford is recalling 27,933 units of the Edge due to a possible fire hazard related to a fuel line. The affected vehicles were manufactured from September 2, 2010 through April 25, 2013 and equipped with a 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine.

"The fuel line pulse damper metal housing may crack as a result of an improper manufacturing process. A cracked fuel line pulse damper housing may result in a combination of fuel odor, weepage or a continuous leak while the fuel system is pressurized," said NHTSA in its summary of the problem. "A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source may result in a fire."

The recall is scheduled to begin on February 28 and dealers will replace the fuel line with one that does not have a damper, free of charge. Meanwhile, owners can contact Ford at 1-866-436-7332 or NHTSA at 1-888-327-4236.
