The Verso 1.6 D-4D MPV will be the first Toyota equipped with a BMW diesel engine under a contract agreed by the two manufacturers in December 2011.
Accordingly, this 1.6-liter engine will produce 110 hp and 270 Nm of torque between 1,750-2,250 rpm, with CO2 emissions of 119 g/km. This is a Euro 5 compliant engine used in the BMW 1-Series and is being manufactured by BMW at their facility in Austria.
"At Toyota, we believe that tackling environmental challenges facing our industry will require more than one approach. Hybrid is at the core of our strategy towards sustainable mobility, but we also see a role for clean diesel in Europe," said Didier Leroy, President and CEO of Toyota Motor Europe. "Working together with an industry leader like the BMW Group allows us to benefit from economies of scale to reduce development costs as well as improve our time-to-market."
Production of the Verso 1.6 D-4D will begin next month at Toyota’s Adapazari facility in Turkey.
