With the automotive market fairly well saturated, new models must perform exceptionally highly in order to stand out in today’s market. Alfa Romeo is a brand which has long been associated with luxury and quality but what does their new sports car offer? And is it enough to help them breakthrough a fiercely competitive industry?
Alfa Romeo 4C Sport
A leading name in sports cars, the official release of details concerning Alfa Romeo’s sporty 4C has been met with plenty of admiration and excitement. The 4C Sport won’t actually be available for purchase until next month but this means the hype surrounding it is high.
According to reports, Alfa has confirmed a few of the key specifications for the new model – giving motorists the chance to weigh it up against other options currently available.
The engine will take the form of a 1.8-liter turbo delivering 240 hp. While this may seem a little low compared to the large numbers boasted by other sports cars it is still more than sufficient with the car reaching 60mph from rest in a spritely 4.5 seconds.
The secret to this speed lies within the car’s chassis and construction. Fantastic use of carbon-fibre and lightweight construction means the model does not need much force to get it moving; making the 240 hp engine more than capable.
The top speed is recorded as 160 mph and while you may not get much opportunity to hit this figure as a driver, it’ll certainly mean you command authority out on the road.
Is it worth it?
Whether the new Alfa Romeo 4C is right for you or not will demand largely on what you’re looking for in a vehicle. The aesthetic appeal is strong – as with any Alfa Romeo model – but there are decent performance credentials to match it; perfect for self-confessed petrol heads.
Price-wise you can expect to part with around £45,000 to get your hands on one of these models and although the car has little weight to it, the same cannot be said for its other dimensions. At 6ft 1inch wide, it’s a big car with plenty of power but this may deter some motorists.
For us, the new Alfa is certainly a model to watch and one expected to perform well in the market. The combination of high performance with the striking looks which Alfa is known for mean the new 4C will be a car with just as much going for it under the bonnet as on-top of it.
We’ll have to wait until it’s released to see how it fairs under practical assessments but for now the written credentials are more than enough to whet our appetite!
What can you expect from the new Alfa sports car?
