Toyota has revealed the Fuel Cell Vehicle (FCV) concept, ahead of its world debut at the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show later this month.

The concept serves as a preview for the production fuel-cell vehicle Toyota plans on to launch around 2015 as a pioneer in the development of hydrogen-powered vehicles. It has a driving range of at least 500 km and refueling times as low as three minutes, roughly the same time as for a gasoline vehicle.

The FCV concept has two 70 MPa high-pressure fuel stacks placed beneath the specially designed body and creates a power output density of 3 kW/L and an output of at least 100 kW. It measures 4,870 mm long, 1,810 mm wide and 1,535 mm tall, with a 2,780 mm wheelbase that offers enough cabin space for four occupants.

Fully fueled, the car can provide enough electricity to meet the daily needs of an average Japanese home (10 kWh) for more than one week.
