The BMW 4-Series Convertible has just made its world debut at the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show.
Essentially a copy of the 4-Series Coupe, the 4-Series Convertible features a three-part folding metal roof which can be opened or closed in less than 20 seconds at the push of a button. This procedure is done at speeds of up to 11 mph (18 km/h).
In the United States, two variants will be offered. The 428i is powered by a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder turbo engine which produces 240 hp and 345 Nm, while the 435i has a 3.0-liter inline-six engine that develops 300 hp and 406 Nm. The two engines are mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission featuring Normal and Sport modes. An xDrive system can be optionally added to the 428i version.
In Europe, the German carmaker will also offer a more frugal 420d powered by a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder turbodiesel engine with 181 hp. The car comes as standard with a six-speed manual but the aforementioned 8-speed automatic transmission is optional.
The 2014 BMW 4-Series Convertible will go on sale in the United States in Q1 2014 at a starting price of $49,675 for the base 428i and $55,825 for the more powerful 435i.
