Porsche has officially revealed the 2014 911 Turbo and Turbo S Cabriolet, ahead of their public debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show on November 20.
Both cars feature an exclusive retractable fabric roof which boasts a lightweight magnesium frame. This innovative technology enables the cabrio to maintain a coupe-like arch to the roof to be preserved when the top is closed. This arch, which offers advantages in terms of aerodynamics, is not feasible using conventional construction techniques. The roof can be opened or closed in around 13 seconds at speeds of up to 48 km/h.
Under the hood, the 911 Turbo Cabriolet is powered by a 3.8-liter six-cylinder turbocharged engine which produces 520 hp and 660 Nm of torque. The 911 Turbo S Cabriolet uses the same engine but tuned to develop 560 hp and 710 Nm of torque. The German carmaker says the 911 Turbo Cabriolet can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 3.5 seconds, while the 911 Turbo S Cabriolet sprints from 0-100km/h in 3.2 seconds. Both versions are capable of hitting a top speed of 314 km/h and returns 17 mpg city / 24 mpg highway.
Scheduled to go on sale early next year, the 911 Turbo Cabriolet will have a starting price of $160,700 while the Turbo S Cabriolet will cost $193,900. Both prices do not include a $950 destination charges.
