Audi has officially revealed the 2014 A3 Cabriolet, ahead of its public debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show tomorrow.

Compared to its predecessor, the new A3 Cabriolet has grown in size as the overall length increased from 4,240 mm to 4,420 mm, the width from 1,770 mm to 1,790 mm and the wheelbase from 2,580 mm to 2,600 mm. Only the height was reduced by 15 mm to 1,410 mm. This gives the compact four-seater a more elegant and sporty look on the road. Luggage capacity grew by 60-liter and it is easier to load. Despite its larger size and better comfort, the car is around 50 kg lighter than the model it replaces.

According to the German carmaker, the A3 Cabriolet has a new soft cloth top that is stretched over a lightweight kinematic mechanism made of magnesium-steel and it complements the car's design perfectly. At the press of a button, the top opens or closes electro-hydraulically in less than 18 seconds, even while driving up to 50 km/h. In addition, customers can also order a "fully automatic acoustic top" which has a thicker inner foam layer meant to reduce interior noise.

At launch, the A3 Cabriolet will be offered with a 140 hp 1.4 TFSI, a 180 hp 1.8 TFSI and a 150 hp 2.0 TDI. Other engines will follow, ranging from the 1.6 TDI with 110 hp to the 2.0 TFSI, which will power the S3 Cabriolet with 300 hp. All engines combine the technologies of direct injection, turbocharging and a start/stop system.

The 2014 Audi A3 Cabriolet is scheduled to go on sale this fall and pricing starts at €31,700.
