New Rolls-Royce Phantom coming in 2016

Rolls-Royce Phantom Series II facelift

The Rolls-Royce Phantom has been on sale for over a decade now and a new report is indicating that the British carmaker is developing an all-new model.

According to Automotive News, the next-generation Phantom will be launched in 2016 and based on the chassis and tech of the BMW 7-Series. This could allow the new Phantom to weigh 204 kg less than the current version thanks to the extensive use of carbon fiber and aluminum.

In terms of engines, it won't be too surprised if the 6.75-liter V12 engine carried over, but slightly upgrade. The engine could be mated to an optional all-wheel drive system.

Sales for the coupe version are expected to start approximately two years after the sedan, while the convertible will likely arrive shortly thereafter.
