Mitsubishi has announced the 2014 Mirage will have a starting price of $12,995 in the United States.
According to the Japanese carmaker, the all-new Mirage is the most fuel-efficient non-hybrid gasoline-powered car available in United States with an EPA-rated fuel economy of 37 mpg city / 44 mpg highway / 40 mpg combined when fitted with the CVT. With the five-speed manual, it will deliver 34 mpg city / 42 mpg highway / 37 mpg combined.
Major contributors to the outstanding fuel efficiency are a low drag coefficient of 0.28, an engine equipped with the latest version of Mitsubishi Innovative Valve Timing Electronic Control variable valve-timing system and Electric Power Steering which does away with fuel-burning parasitic drag on the engine from a conventional hydraulic-based power steering.
The 2014 Mirage comes as standard with seven airbags, tire pressure monitoring system, hill start assist (for CVT-equipped models), along with amenities like automatic climate control, keyless entry with panic alarm, auto-off halogen headlights, rear heater floor ducts and piano black center console trim.
For an extra $1,200, the ES trim adds one-touch start/stop engine switch, Bluetooth hands-free phone system, 14-inch alloy wheels, cruise and audio controls on the leather-covered steering wheel, fog lamps and silver interior accent trim. There's also a Navigation Package available including a SD card-based navigation system and a rear view camera.
Power comes exclusively from a 1.2-liter 3-cylinder engine that produces 74 hp and 100 Nm of torque.
