2014 BMW X5 production

Production of the 2014 BMW X5 has officially began on August 1 at the Spartanburg facility in South Carolina, USA.

The first model is a Mineral White X5 M50d (six-cylinder inline diesel engine with M Performance TwinPower Turbo technology). It has a Nappa Mocha leather interior and will be exported to a European dealer who will use it to "generate excitement and sales" in their region.

"Since 1999, the X5 has been a significant contributor to the Spartanburg plant’s global success," said BMW Manufacturing President, Josef Kerscher. "Our team will continue to build the next-generation X5 with the superior quality that our customers around the world have come to expect from South Carolina."

The third-generation X5 will go on sale this fall and be offered with three different engines including:
  • A twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 with 450 hp and 650 Nm
  • A 3.0-liter TwinPower Turbo six-cylinder diesel with 258 hp and 560 Nm
  • A tri-turbocharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder diesel engine with 381 hp and 740 Nm
