After many months of secrecy, VUHL has officially unveiled their 05 sports car at the Royal Automobile Club on Pall Mall in London.
Created to compete against the BAC Mono, Ariel Atom and KTM X-Bow, the VUHL 05 is powered by a 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine which produces 285 hp and 420 Nm of torque. It is mated to a six-speed manual transmission which allows the 725 kg car to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 3.7 seconds and hit a top speed of 244 km/h.
The chassis comprises a three-section bonded tub constructed from aluminium extrusions and aluminium honeycomb, allowing the 05 to have a remarkably high level of torsional rigidity for optimum handling. Bolted direct to the passenger cell is a chrome-moly steel subframe housing the engine and rear suspension. A three-stage forward crash structure and double layer sidewalls provide a matchless level of protection for the occupants. The standard body is made from RTM reinforced plastic, but carbon fiber is an option.
The 2014 VUHL 05 will go into production in Mexico in November and pricing starts at $83,945 (£55,000 or €64,555). It will initially be offered to UK and US markets with first deliveries scheduled for next spring.
