Caterham has just revealed the 620R which is set to debut this weekend at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
Developed to replace the range-topping Superlight R500, the 620R is powered by a 2.0-liter Ford Duratec engine which produces 311 hp at 7,700 rpm and 296 Nm of torque at 7,350 rpm. This allows the car to sprint from 0-96 km/h in 2.79 seconds and hit a top speed of 250 km/h.
It comes with an unique gunmetal chassis, an air-flow optimised nose cone and a race-spec cooling system. Other highlights include a De Dion rear suspension, high-performance dampers and 13-inch alloy wheels wrapped in Avon ZZR tires.
In the cockpit, there are more noticeable improvements, with features including performance-focused instrumentation and ergonomic switchgear, along with race seats, a Q/R race-spec steering wheel and carbon fiber interior panels.
Caterham Cars CEO, Graham Macdonald, said: "The 620R is the most hardcore production Seven ever built for the road. The R500 claimed its place in motoring history as a benchmark for lightweight sportscar performance but this new vehicle pushes the boundaries even further. While I wouldn’t necessarily recommend this car for those inexperienced in driving Caterhams, we always ensure that even our fastest cars retain the manageable delivery of power that makes them accessible, despite the daunting statistics."
The 620R will go on sale later this year and pricing starts at £49,995 (€57,900 or $74,500).
