2007-2008 Honda Fit recalled for window switch fire hazard

Honda is recalling 143,083 units of the 2007-2008 Fit due to a problem with the power window switch.

"Under severe conditions, rain water or other liquids could enter through an open window, and enter the master power window switch. Over time, exposure to water or moisture could build up electrical resistance within the switch, which could lead to the switch overheating or melting, which could manifest itself as smoke, and could potentially cause a fire," the Japanese carmaker said in a statement.

No crashes or injuries have been reported related to this issue. Honda is advising customers to park affected Fit vehicles outside until the power window master switch has been inspected.

The recall is expected to begin in mid-July and dealers will inspect and fix the power window switch, free of charge. Owners can call Honda at 1-800-999-1009 for more information.
