Aston Martin is recalling 689 vehicles in the United States due to a problem with the throttle pedal arm which may break without warning.

"If the throttle pedal arm breaks, the engine will return to idle and the driver will be unable to maintain or increase engine speed, increasing the risk of a crash," said NHTSA in its official press release.

The affected vehicles were manufactured from May 14, 2012 through April 10, 2013, including the DB9, DBS, Rapide, V8 Vantage, V12 Vantage and Virage.

The British carmaker will notify owners and dealers will replace the throttle pedal assemblies, free of charge. Meanwhile, owners can contact Aston Martin at 1-888-923-9988 or NHTSA at 1-888-327-4236.
