Toyota has officially revealed the 2014 Corolla, which will go on sale in the United States later this year.
Built on the "Iconic Dynamism" theme seen on the Furia Concept at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show, the all-new Corolla measures 4,639 mm length, 1,776 mm width and 1,455 mm height, meaning it is 99 mm longer, 16 mm wider and 10 mm lower than the car it replaces.
According to the Japanese carmaker, the 11th generation Corolla comes as standard with a five-point lower front grille, LED low-beam headlamps and 15- to 17-inch alloy wheels. Meanwhile, the interior matches the visual impact of the exterior and adds a new level of refinement. The longer 2,700 mm wheelbase creates a more spacious cabin, with a rear seat area that is 75 mm longer than the previous model, to offer outstanding rear leg room.
Under the hood, the 2014 Corolla L, LE and S trim levels are powered by a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine with intelligent Variable Valve Timing (VVT-i) which produces 132 hp, while the new LE Eco grade comes with a 140 hp 1.8-liter engine with Valvematic technology, improved aerodynamics and low rolling resistance tires.
Three transmissions are available, with a six-speed manual for the L and S models, an obsolete four-speed automatic for the base L and a newly developed 7-speed continuously variable transmission (CVT) for LE, LE Eco and S.
Toyota said that the Eco-badged models will achieve an estimated highway fuel economy rating of over 40 mpg US, which is equal to 5.9-liter / 100 km or 48 mpg UK.
Standard features include eight airbags, Bluetooth hand-free phone and audio-streaming connectivity, along with a wide range of popular equipment to help distinguish each trim level, such as power moonroof, back-up monitor, available paddle shifters, smart key / push-button start, SofTex seats and apps accessible through the audio head unit.
