The Porsche 918 Spyder will go into production this fall and the company is hoping the United States will be the model's largest market with at least 190 sales.
As a result, Porsche has been courting potential customers worldwide for months with promotional mailings and invitations to private viewings as well as exclusive events in cities such as Dallas, Las Vegas, New York, California, Birmingham and Pebble Beach. The German carmaker plans to make just 918 units over a two- to three-year life cycle, with the car's price slated to start at $845,000.
As a small reminder, the 918 Spyder will feature a 4.6-liter V8 engine and a couple of electric motors, for a combined output of 887 hp and 800 Nm of torque. This allows the supercar to accelerate from 0-62 mph in 2.8 seconds and hit a top speed of 211 mph. In pure electric mode, it can travel 18 miles and accelerate from 0-62 mph in 7 seconds.
