Chevrolet has officially announced the Corvette's 6.2-liter LT1 V8 engine is SAE-certified to produce 455 hp and 624 Nm of torque.
With the available performance exhaust system, the new LT1 engine can develop up to 460 hp at 6,000 rpm and 630 Nm of torque at 4,600 rpm. The North American carmaker estimates the car will accelerate from 0-96 km/h in less than four seconds and return 26+ mpg US on the highway.
"The Corvette Stingray's LT1 engine is a triumph of advanced technology, delivering more power and torque than ever before with greater efficiency," said Jordan Lee, Small Block chief engineer. "The LT1's performance complements the Corvette’s low mass with a tremendous feeling of power that builds as the rpm climbs. Drivers will experience more power and acceleration than ever before with the standard engine - in fact, its power and torque surpass many uplevel engines offered by competitors."
The 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray coupe will go on sale this fall, with a convertible following by the end of the year. Pricing starts at $51,995 for the coupe and $56,995 for the convertible.
