Audi has confirmed to Autocar that the R8 e-tron will not hit the production line and the current 10 units will be used exclusively for internal testing and development only.
It's thought that the main reason for Audi refusing to put the all-electric R8 e-tron into production is the fact that battery technology hasn't advanced as fast as the German carmaker expected, meaning the cost for the batteries are still too expensive to be a viable option for series production.
As a reminder, the R8 e-tron, which uses a lithium-ion battery and a pair of two electric motors, can accelerate from 0-60 mph in just 4.2 seconds and has a range of 134 miles.
