Stand out on the roads with a MINI convertible

MINI John Cooper Works convertible

The MINI convertible is a popular choice amongst motorist who chose to drive a new car more regularly through a contract hire scheme, rather than buying one outright. With a wide range of models to choose from and new special editions coming to the range, having the option to renew their MINI often works well for some fashion conscious drivers.

The MINI convertible range - the one with a folding fabric roof to let the sun in - starts with the MINI One convertible at £16,070 and finishes with the MINI John Cooper Works convertible at £24,495. And in between there are every kind of petrol and diesel engine, and trims, options that a MINI convertible fan could ever need. Also, there is the MINI Highgate convertible special edition priced at £21,505. There’s one thing that the MINI convertible range doesn’t lack, and that’s choice!

The MINI is one car that wears its convertible looks very well. It’s almost as if it was designed to be a convertible right from the very beginning. The MINI’s familiar friendly face is there to be seen, while the upright windscreen side pillars are too recognisable from the MINI hatchback. However, with the fabric roof neatly folded down, the MINI convertible has a smooth and flat back end, and the usual rear end of quirky rear lights and compact boot area that we’re used to. Put the roof back up again and the hatchback’s familiar box-like shape is restored.

Inside, it’s the usual inviting MINI place to be with a well laid out interior that’s attractively retro flavoured and full of neat design touches. Depending on how much you spend, you’ll either enjoy cloth or leather upholstery, with full options for sat-nav, air-con and electric everything ready and waiting on the extras list. Basically, with a liberal ticking of the options boxes, a new MINI convertible can be as extravagant as you want it to be.

There are four seats inside the MINI convertible with plenty of space up front of course, however, the rear seats are a little tighter for space, so if you regularly need to carry adults in the back, it might be worth measuring up your MINI convertible first. Saying that, the MINI is not as mini as it used to be and can still work out as a more funky-looking family car, if not entirely practical.

The MINI convertible comes with a full range of the latest and most frugal petrol and diesel engines that BMW has to offer, so your next MINI convertible can be as fast or as economical as you want it to be. For those with miles-per-gallon on the mind, there is the MINI Cooper D convertible which, according to MINI, can hit up to 70.6 mpg on the combined economy cycle. That’s pretty impressive.

For those with speed in the sunshine high on their list of needs, there’s the MINI John Cooper Works convertible with its powerful turbocharged petrol engine and racy-looking body styling. With a full fat 210 hp available to the driver, the MINI John Cooper Works convertible really will put the rush of the wind through your hair, and with a top speed of 146 mph, this car could well be a poorly secured wig’s very worst enemy!
