After the fame as a sports car manufacturer in the 1960s, Alfa Romeo is revisiting its long-forgotten sphere of influence by offering a highly-experimental 4C.
The Italian carmaker has occasionally tried to recapture the magic of the bygone era when they ruled the European sports car market by introducing controversial sporty vehicles. The last big attempt at conquering the fun-car market was the Alfa Romeo GTV Coupe, which although still maintains a steady fan following, was not entirely successful with cars struggling to sell out even 2 years after the production plant was closed.
The GTV was designed by Pininfarina while the latest model 4C has been built by Alfa’s own "Centro Stile" from scratch. It is created as a proper sports car - a lightweight carbon fiber body is mounted on top of a hybrid frame similar to that of Lotus Elise and the car has a sophisticated sporty suspension.
But does the car has the power to match its sporty image? The engine displacement of 1.75-liter may sound laughable but Alfa has always been known to be able to squeeze out ridiculous amounts of power from small engines. This one’s not an exception - the engine is capable of a 237 hp output. For its weight of just 895 kg, the car must be a lot of fun to drive!
