The 2014 Porsche 911 GT3 has made its American debut today at the New York Auto Show and will have a starting price of $130,400, not including a $950 destination charge.
Set to go on sale towards the end of 2013, the new 911 GT3 is powered by a 3.8-liter 6-cylinder engine which develops 475 hp and 438 Nm of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox and a locking differential. This allows the sports car to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 3.5 seconds before hitting a top speed of 315 km/h.
For the first time, the German carmaker is employing active rear wheel steering for increased precision and improved lateral dynamics. Depending on the speed, the rear wheels steer in the same or opposite direction of the front wheels, improving stability and agility.
To mark the celebration of 50 years of the 911 in the U.S., Porsche is also launching the "50 Years of 911 Photo Stream Competition" at the New York Auto Show. The automaker will invite Porsche owners from across the globe to upload photos of their 911s on Instagram, Flickr or Twitter with the hashtag #50Y911. Fans will vote for their favorite and the three entrants who receive the most votes will win a professional photo shoot for their vehicle. For more information, visit http://50years.porsche.com.
