Kia has just introduced the 2013 Optima Hybrid, featuring a more performance-driven and fuel-efficient powertrain as well as more cargo space.
Like the 2013 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid, the Optima Hybrid has a more powerful 47 hp electric traction motor, a stronger Hybrid Starter Generator (HSG) and an upgraded 47 kW lithium polymer battery. Although the combined 199 hp rating is slightly lower than before, reduced from 206 hp, the combined 318 Nm of torque is significantly higher, increased from 264 Nm, resulting in a more responsive and powerful Optima Hybrid. The midsize sedan is also predictably a bit more efficient than its predecessor, achieving 36 mpg in the city, 40 mpg on the highway and 38 mpg combined (US).
Besides the powertrain upgrades, the updated Optima Hybrid also benefits from greater trunk space than before, thanks to the repackaging of the vehicle’s battery pack. Furthermore, the new EX variant adds a panoramic sunroof, heated and ventilated front seats, navigation with back-up camera, an 8-speaker Infinity audio system and 17-inch alloy wheels.
