BMW has officially unveiled the 3-Series Gran Turismo, ahead of its debut at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show next month.
According to the German carmaker, the 3-Series GT combines the "sedan’s dynamic, sporting genes with the practicality and versatility of the Touring." It features a double kidney grille, four doors with frameless window design, a sloping roofline and a large tailgate with an active spoiler which provides visual lightness and reduces lift at touring speeds.
The latest addition to the 3-Series family can be ordered in an entry-level version, with the Sport Line, Luxury Line or Modern Line styling packages. There's also an M Sport package that adds an all-new aerodynamic body kit, high-gloss shadow line trim, a sport-tuned suspension and 18- or 19-inch alloy wheels.
Overall, the new 3-Series GT is 200 mm longer in total than the 3-Series Touring, comes with a 110 mm longer wheelbase and stands 81 mm taller.
For the interior, the front and rear passengers all benefit from a seating position raised by 59 mm, which provides an outstanding view out and makes entry and exit significantly more comfortable. The increase in space will be particularly noticeable in the rear compartment, where an extra 70 mm of rear seat legroom, while the load area holds 520-liter of luggage which can be expanded to 1600-liter when the rear seats are folded down.
Under the hood, five different engines are available:
- A 2.0-liter TwinPower Turbo four-cylinder diesel with 143 hp and 320 Nm
- A 2.0-liter TwinPower Turbo four-cylinder diesel with 184 hp and 380 Nm
- A 2.0-liter TwinPower Turbo four-cylinder with 184 hp and 270 Nm
- A 2.0-liter TwinPower Turbo four-cylinder with 245 hp and 350 Nm
- A 3.0-liter TwinPower Turbo inline-six cylinder with 306 hp and 400 Nm
In the United States, the BMW 3-Series Gran Turismo will go on sale in late 2013.
