According to Auto Express, Mazda is working on a small SUV which will be based on the next-generation Mazda2.
Expected to be called the CX-3, the crossover is set to rival the Nissan Juke and the Ford Fiesta-based EcoSport. It aims to be one of the most efficient and best-driving models in its segment.
The CX-3 will also use Mazda’s SkyActiv technologies, with emphasis on low weight and strong efficiency to everything from the chassis to the gearbox. The possible engine lineup includes a 1.3-liter gasoline turbo and a 1.6-liter diesel.
Since in this class two-wheel-drive crossovers outsell the four-wheel-drive models, the CX-3 may be offered as a front-wheel-drive model only.
The Mazda CX-3 is expected to be launched in early 2014.
