Maserati is currently working on a Porsche 911 rival, which will play a crucial role in the company's plans to sell 50,000 units annually by 2015.
Set to launch by 2015, the mid-engined sports car will get a chassis based on the upcoming Alfa Romeo 4C that will be unveiled next month at the 2013 Detroit Motor Show. It could be called the GranSport and will be offered with V6 and V8 engines developed and built in collaboration with Ferrari, including a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 with 404 hp and a twin-turbo V8 with 550 hp.
The Italian carmaker is hoping a 1,400 kg (3,086 lbs) weight and a price tag of less than £100,000.
