Following a leak just a few days ago, Mercedes-Benz has officially revealed the 2014 E-Class facelift, ahead of its debut at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show on January 13. According to the German carmaker, this is more than just a facelifted version as it gets significant styling changes, updated engines and more standard equipment.
On the outside, the E-Class has a restyled bumper, a new grille with a thicker chrome surround, new one-piece headlights with integrated LED daytime running lights and geometric inserts. There's also a slightly refreshed rear fascia, redesigned rear doors and large alloy wheels.
Meanwhile, the cabin comes with new seats, a new screen at the top of the center stack, improved trim materials and revised air vents. Standard on all models is a new Collision Prevention Assist radar-based collision warning system, which can brake the vehicle to lower severity during an impact.
Optional safety equipment includes Distronic Plus with Steering Assist, which helps to keep the car centred in a chosen lane and tracks traffic in tailbacks, and Brake Assist Plus with Junction Assist, which is able to detect cross traffic and pedestrians and can boost the braking power if the brakes are insufficiently applied by the driver to avoid an impact.
Under the hood, the engine lineup includes:
- E200: a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder with 184 hp and 300 Nm
- E200 CDI: a 2.1-liter 4-cylinder with 134 hp
- E220 CDI: a 2.1-liter 4-cylinder with 168 hp
