Following this morning’s leaked images, BMW has officially unveiled the all-new M6 Gran Coupe, which will make its first public debut in January at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show.
According to the German carmaker, the sports sedan has an aggressive body kit which includes a new front bumper with larger air intakes, standard Adaptive LED Headlights, an M kidney grille and revised side skirts. There's also a carbon fiber-reinforced plastic rear diffuser, a carbon fiber roof, high-gloss Shadow Line trim and a four-tailpipe sports exhaust system.
Inside, the cabin is nicely equipped with heated driver and front passenger seats, a M-specific steering wheel, illuminated sill plates, an Alcantara headliner and carbon fiber trim. Customers can order M multifunction seats, GPS navigation and a Bang & Olufsen audio system with hi-fi loudspeakers.
Motivation is provided by a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 engine which produces 560 hp between 6,000 and 7,000 rpm and 680 Nm of torque between 1,500 and 5,750 rpm. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and an active M differential. This allows the car to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 4.2 seconds and hit an electronically-limited top speed of 250 km/h or 305 km/h with the optional M Driver’s Package. In terms of efficiency, it returns 9.9-liter per 100 km (28.5 mpg UK / 23.7 mpg US) with CO2 emissions of 232 g/km.
Other performance specs include an aluminum-intensive suspension, hydraulic variable-ratio rack-and-pinion steering, electronically-controlled shock absorbers, dynamic damper control system, 20-inch M light-alloy wheels and optional M carbon-ceramic brakes.
The BMW M6 Gran Coupe will go on sale in Europe in May, with a starting price of €128,000 (including a 19% VAT). North American sales are slated for early next summer.
