Land Rover is recalling 70 units of the 2012 LR2 and Range Rover Evoque due to a problem with the rear brake caliper retaining bolts that may be insufficiently torqued. The affected vehicles were built on June 11, 2012.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, "Insufficiently torqued brake caliper bolts may result in the brake caliper detaching. A detached brake caliper may lead to a loss of brake function. Additionally, the caliper may strike a wheel resulting in the sudden deflation of a tire. Either situation may increase the risk of a vehicle crash".
The recall is expected to begin on, or before, January 18, 2013. Dealers will inspect and tighten the rear brake caliper retaining bolts, free of charge. For further information, owners can contact Land Rover at 1-800-452-4827 or NHTSA at 1-888-327-4236.
