Honda is recalling 157 units of the 2012 Civic because of a problem with the steering column. The affected vehicles were built from October 26, 2012 through October 30, 2012.

According to documentation (PDF) Honda sent to the NHTSA, the steering columns of certain 2012 Civics were assembled with a tilt bracket designed for a 2013 Honda Civic steering column assembly.

"The steering column may not have proper energy-absorbing characteristics, which could increase the risk of injury during a vehicle crash," said the NHTSA in its summary of the problem.

"This issue was discovered during quality checks at the factory, and no crashes or injuries have been reported related to this issue," the Japanese carmaker said in a statement.

The recall is expected to begin on December 4 and dealers will replace the affected parts free of charge. Meanwhile, owners can contact Honda at (800) 999-1009.
