The 2014 Porsche Cayman has made its public debut at the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show.
Essentially a Boxster coupe, the third generation Cayman is lower and longer, lighter and faster, more efficient and more powerful than the outgoing Cayman. It features a sleeker roofline, wider track, more heavily angled tailgate, larger wheels and carbon ceramic brakes.
The interior carries over from the 981 Boxster and features higher quality materials, new gadgets and better equipment. In particular, the sports car is now available with several new options including adaptive cruise control for the first time, a specially developed Burmester audio system and a keyless Entry & Drive system.
The base Cayman is powered by a 2.7-liter flat six engine with 275 hp. This allows the coupe to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 5.4 seconds and hit a top speed of 266 km/h. In terms of efficiency, it can return between 7.7-liter per 100 km and 8.2-liter per 100 km.
Meanwhile, the Cayman S gets a 3.4-liter flat six engine with 325 hp. It enables the car to sprint from 0-100 km/h in 4.7 seconds, before hitting a top speed of 283 km/h. In terms of efficiency, the model averages between 8.0-liter per 100 km and 8.8-liter per 100 km.
Both engines are mated to a standard six-speed manual or an optional PDK seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox.
The 2014 Porsche Cayman will go on sale on April 27, 2013. German pricing starts at €51,385 for the base Cayman and €64,118 for the Cayman S. In the United States, it will hit showrooms next spring, prices start at $52,600 and $63,800 respectively, excluding a destination charge of $950.
