After an initial teaser release yesterday, Mercedes-Benz has officially revealed the 2013 SLS AMG Black Series, ahead of its public debut at the Los Angeles Motor Show.
According to the German carmaker, the SLS AMG Black Series has borrowed some styling cues from the GT3 version, with 20 mm and 24 mm wider front and rear tracks, respectively. It comes with 20-inch lightweight forged alloy wheels with standard carbon ceramic brakes, carbon fiber rear diffuser, side skirts and front splitter and a titanium exhaust system with the quad tailpipes.
An optional carbon fiber aero pack is available and includes an adjustable rear wing and front dive planes which should create more downforce and improve high-speed stability. Other highlights are the new electronic locking differential and a carbon fiber driveshaft. Adaptive sports suspension and launch control are also part of the package.
Inside, the cabin has carbon fiber center console, an Alcantara wrapped steering wheel and lightweight sports seats (15 kg lighter), while losing the COMAND multimedia system to save weight. The main battery is lithium-ion, which saves a further 8 kg.
Under the hood, the 6.2-liter V8 engine has been fitted with a new air intake, custom-build camshafts, improved oil and water cooling and some other tweaks, producing 622 hp and 634 Nm of torque from the standard 583 hp and 648 Nm. This allows the supercar to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 3.6 seconds before reaching a top speed of 315 km/h. In terms of efficiency, the car returns 13.7-liter per 100 km (20.6 mpg UK or 17 mpg US) and CO2 emissions of 321 g/km.
No pricing details have been released yet, but the new SLS AMG Black Series will go on sale in June 2013 and has a starting price of more than £200,000.
