Toyota is recalling 11,200 Scion iQ vehicles from the 2012 and 2013 model years in the United States because the passenger airbag might not deploy properly.
According to the Japanese carmaker, the flaw stems from the front passenger Occupant Classification System (OCS) weight sensor cables, which are prone to damage when the seat is moved backward or forward. If damaged, the safety system may not operate properly or at all when needed in a crash.
Toyota noted that is not aware of any crashes or injuries related to this condition. To rectify the threat, dealers will install a protective cover over the sensor cables. The repair should take approximately an hour.
Owners can contact Scion at 866-707-2466 or NHTSA at 888-327-4236 for more information.
