At the 2012 Sao Paulo International Motor Show, Volkswagen has introduced the Taigun Concept, which is a compact SUV based on the same platform as the Up. The concept's name is an anagram of "Tiguan".

According to the German carmaker, the concept is 3,859 mm (98 inches) long, 1,728 mm (43.9 inches) wide and 1,570 mm (39.9 inches) tall, which makes it significantly smaller than the Tiguan (4,432 mm long). It rides on a 2,470 mm (97.2 inches) wheelbase, which is 50 mm longer than the Up.

Inside, the Taigun has a cargo space of 280 liters or 987 liters with the rear seats folded down.

Motivation is provided by a turbocharged 1.0-liter three-cylinder engine with 108 hp and 175 Nm of torque. This allows the 985 kg car to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 9.2 seconds and hit a top speed of 186 km/h, while averaging 4.5-liter per 100 km.

"The torque-strong three-cylinder is an ideal engine for such a compact SUV; it is a companion for driving through the urban environment that is as efficient as it is dynamic," commented Ulrich Hackenberg, VW Board Member for Technical Development.
