In a recent interview at the Paris Motor Show, Volkswagen's research and development chief has confirmed the company is currently working on a new version of the Phaeton, which is expected to debut around 2015.
Speaking with Inside Line, Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg said "We are working on it now" and "the new car will be offered in the United States."
Inside Line also says that the model will have an aluminum body architecture which will enable it to improve its fuel efficiency over the current steel-bodied car. In addition, the revised Phaeton will keep its premium positioning and is expected to target target the Jaguar XJ.
