Honda is recalling a total of 573,147 units of the V6 Accord from 2003 to 2007 in the U.S. to fix a defective power steering hose that can leak fluid and catch on fire. The recall also covers 30,058 units in Canada.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the power steering hose in the cars may deteriorate due to high temperatures, resulting in cracks and and leaks that could cause a loss of power steering assistance or smoke and possibly a fire.
The Japanese automaker also reports that there has been one fire, but no injuries or crashes related to this problem.
Honda will be replacing a new heat resistant power steering hose for free on affected vehicles on October 26. For more information, owners can contact Honda at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153).
