In a recent interview, an Audi spokesman has confirmed the brand will not offer the 2013 A3 Sportback in the United States.
Speaking with Edmunds, Andrew Lipman said "We're not bringing the A3 Sportback to the United States". Accordingly, the five-door hatchback will only go on sale in Europe early next year. While the German carmaker didn’t provide a reason for this action yet, we can easily understand that US consumers have less need with a hatchback for the moment.
As we have previously reported, the engine options for the new A3 Sportback will include a 1.4- and a 1.8-liter TFSI gasoline engines and a 2.0-liter TDI diesel. More engines, including a smaller 1.2-liter TFSI which produces 105 hp and 175 Nm of torque, will be added to the lineup before the end of next year. All models come as standard with a manual 6-speed gearbox or an optional S Tronic.
