Mercedes-Benz is recalling 432 SL-Class cars in the US due to an issue it discovered during crash testing that could lead to a fire. The affected cars are manufactured between December 19, 2011 and May 31 2012.
According to the German carmaker, the fluid used as a refrigerant by the air conditioning system could leak in a severe crash, causing a fire in the engine compartment when coming in contact with the hot engine.
Mercedes says the company will replace the fragile coolant lines and the fluid free of charge. Owners can contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s safety hotline at (888) 327-4236 or Mercedes-Benz at (800) 367-6372.
