Maserati is recalling 485 units of the 2012 GranTurismo and Quattroporte due to problems with the tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS). The affected vehicles include all 2012 GranTurismo coupes and convertibles, including the high-performance MC version, as well as all 2012 Quattroporte sedans.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the TPMS fitted to the cars may malfunction due to a software error which prevents the system from alerting the driver when it detects low pressure. Driving on a tire with low pressure increases the risk a crash.
Owners will be contacted by the Italian carmaker in early November and dealers will replace the tire pressure monitoring system for free. For further information, owners can contact NHTSA at 1-888-327-4236 or Maserati at 1-201-816-2600.
